Stephen Taylor spent eight years in the United States Marine Corps as
a pilot before moving to Lafayette, LA. After being honorably
discharged in 1999, Taylor entered the aviation industry as a pilot for a
private company called Net Jets while attending Ohio State University
to earn his MBA. After he earned his advanced degree in business administration, Taylor started fashioning the business strategies of the
aviation companies he worked for. He moved to Lafayette to work as the
Director of International Operations for PHI, Inc. Taylor was drawn to
flying aircraft since he was a small boy and he knew he wanted to be a
pilot all his life. After he joined the Marines he tried out for the
Marine Corps pilot program.
Becoming a Marine Corps pilot is arduous. Most who apply don’t make it because of the competitiveness of the program. To begin, all would-be pilots need a bachelor’s degree at minimum, either from a civilian college or the US Naval Academy. Stephen Taylor, before his journey to Lafayette, LA, told his selection officer he wanted to become an officer in the Marine Corps so he could become a pilot. All Marine pilots are required to be commissioned at the rank of second lieutenant t minimum.
